Completion Requirements
Each licensee must complete 4 hours of continuing education annually and prior to their renewal date.
All electrician licenses are effective for a period of one year. Licensees may begin renewing their licenses 90 days prior to the expiration of their license.

This online process is the easiest and fastest way to get your license renewed.
As a reminder, TDLR will mail a renewal post card 90 days prior to license expiration. If a licensee wishes to renew using a paper renewal form, then the post card must be mailed back to TDLR requesting the renewal form. In turn, TDLR will mail the licensee a paper renewal form.

Special Designations or Stipulations:
To renew a master electrician, journeyman electrician, master sign electrician, journeyman sign electrician, maintenance electrician, or residential wireman license, the license holder must complete four hours of continuing education annually.
IMPORTANT NOTE: To ensure compliance with the board rules, You must BE ACTIVE in the online course for at least 50 minutes for each credit hour the course is worth (for example, if the course is worth 2 credit hours, you must spend 100 minutes of active participation in the course). After you spend this time in the course and you pass the test, you may download your certificate of completion.
Please Note: Apprentice Electricians, Electrical Contractors, and Electrical Sign Contractors are not required to have continuing education for their license renewals.

Applicable Course of Study:
The educational courses must address the National Electric Code and state laws and rules that regulate the conduct of the license holder.
The department is currently evaluating education sources and intends on developing rules that address continuing education requirements.
Proof of Compliance:
A licensee shall retain a copy of the certificate of completion for a course for one year after the date of completion. In conducting any inspection or investigation of the licensee, the department may examine the licensee’s records to determine compliance with this subsection.
In addition, approved providers are required to submit the following required information for those students who have completed course(s):
-TDLR assigned provider number
-TDLR assigned course number
-Date the course was completed
-TDLR assigned electrician license number of the student
-Last name, first name and middle initial of student
