Completion Requirements
Licensed master plumbers must complete five (5) credits of continuing education every biennial renewal period.

Special Designations or Stipulations:
Every licensed master plumber must complete one (1) hour of review of the existing National Standard Plumbing Code and one (1) hour reviewing the laws and regulations pertinent to the practice of a master plumber.

For the next biennial license period.

Applicable Course of Study:
The Board has decided to require every licensed master plumber to complete one hour of review of the existing National Standard Plumbing Code as amended by N.J.A.C. 5:23-3.15 and one hour reviewing the laws and regulations pertinent to the practice of a master plumber, specifically N.J.S.A. 45:14C-1 et seq. and N.J.A.C. 13:32. The remaining three hours will be devoted to any one or more of the following:

1. Further review of the existing National Standard Plumbing Code as amended by N.J.A.C. 5:23-3.15;

2. Further review of laws and regulations pertinent to the practice of a master plumber;

3. Job site safety, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and related information;

4. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/barrier free provisions and Uniform Construction Code (UCC) requirements;

5. Plumbing systems pipe sizing for waste, drainage, vent, water and gas;

6. Contracting liability, insurance requirements, business law, consumer contracts and ethical conduct;

7. The licensed master plumber's responsibilities for an employee's workmanship and competence;

8. International Mechanical Code requirements;

9. Backflow prevention and backflow devices;

10. New Jersey sales tax and other tax matters;

11. Organizing/managing a business, estimating/bidding and project managing; or

12. Excavation and backfill requirements and procedures.

Non-Compliance Penalties:
A licensed master plumber who fails to renew the license within 30 days after the expiration date of the license shall be suspended without a hearing.

A person who continues to practice or hold him or herself out as a licensed master plumber after being suspended shall be deemed to have committed unlicensed practice pursuant to N.J.S.A. 45:14C-12.3, even if no notice of suspension has been provided to the person.

Exceptions or exemptions:
The board may, in its discretion, waive requirements for continuing plumbing education on an individual basis for reasons of hardship such as illness or disability, retirement of the license or other good cause.

The board shall not require completion of continuing plumbing education credits for an initial renewal of license.
