Completion Requirements
Currently, there are no continuing education requirements for public utilities contractors in the state of North Carolina.

Special Designations or Stipulations:
This classification of general contractor includes those whose operations are the performance of construction work on the sub-classifications of facilities set forth in G.S. 87-10(3).
The board may issue a license to a public utilities contractor that is limited to any of the sub-classifications set forth in G.S. 87-10(3) for which the contractor qualifies.
Within appropriate sub-classification, a public utilities contractor license covers work done under the specialty classifications of S (Boring and Tunneling), PU (Communications), PU (Fuel Distribution), PU (Electrical – Ahead of Point of Delivery), and S (Swimming Pools).

Non-Compliance Penalties:
If a license is not renewed within 60 days following expiration, then it becomes “invalid,” and the contractor becomes, in effect, unlicensed.
Reexamination is required if a license is not renewed for 2 years following expiration.
After a lapse of 2 years, no renewal shall be effected and all requirements for a new license must be fulfilled, in accordance with G.S. 87-10.
