Completion Requirements
15 hours current National Electrical Code update every three years.
Renewal Dates
Renewal occurs biennially based on the initial date of licensure.
The board will notify licensees of the date of expiration of their licenses and renewal fee amounts. The notice will be mailed to the licensee’s last known address at least 30 days prior to the expiration of the license.
A late fee is assessed for licenses renewed after the license expiration date.
Any person who submits an application for renewal more than 90 days after the expiration date shall be subject to all requirements governing new applicants.

Special Designations or Stipulations:
A person may renew a license for up to 90 days after the date of its expiration upon payment of the license renewal fee and a late fee. The 90-day period is for the purpose of expediting license renewals only and does not postpone license expiration.
Any master, journeyman, or limited who submits an application for renewal more than 90 days after the license expiration date shall be subject to one of he following conditions:
(1) If a person requests a license renewal more than 90 days, but less than two years, after expiration of the license, the person may reinstate without examination by filing the appropriate form(s) and paying the license fee and late penalty fee;
(2) If a person requests a license renewal more tan two years after the expiration date of the license, the person must request a hearing at a scheduled meeting of the board to determine eligibility. The board, at its discretion, may reinstate a license upon payment of any penalties and stipulations it deems appropriate. The terms of renewal may vary from one case to another; or
(3) If a person requests a license renewal more than 10 years after the expiration date of the license, the person will be treated as a new applicant and must fulfill all requirements of 32 M.R.S.A. Chapter 17 and these rules.
A master, journeyman, or limited electrician may become inactive by paying the inactive fee designated by the board.
Renewal for an inactive license occurs biennially based on the initial date of licensure.
An inactive master, journeyman, or limited electrician can reinstate his license up to three years after becoming inactive upon completion of a 15 hour current National Electrical Code update and payment of the fee.
In order to reinstate an inactive license beyond the three years of becoming inactive, the licensee must obtain board approval.
