To be eligible for credit, educational programs must be approved by the board or, if offered in another state and not approved by the board, must be approved for continuing education credit by a unit of government administering electrician licensing requirements in that state.

All educational programs shall be conducted by instructors who have the qualifications described in at least one of the following items:
(1) An electrician license and at least four years experience in electrical inspection, supervising electrical installations, or teaching subjects within the scope of the electrical work permitted by the instructor’s license. Not more than four hours of instruction credit will be allowed where the scope of the electrical work permitted by the instructor’s license is less than that of the person who attended the educational program.
(2) A registered or licensed electrical engineer with at least four years experience in the design of premises electrical power systems.

Instructors of educational programs approved under this part shall receive three hours of instruction credit for each hour of instruction allowable under subpart 1.

Proof of Compliance:
To receive credit for attending programs in other states, the applicant must submit documents acceptable to the board showing approval and proof of attendance.

Although providers of education programs are required to report continuing education credits directly to the bard, persons attending programs for credit will receive a certificate of completion. These certificates should be held by the licensee and sent to the board only if requested in the event that complete information is not received from the provider.

Within 14 days after presentation of an educational program for credit under part 3800.3602, the provider shall provide a certificate of completion to each licensee in attendance, and shall forward an attendance list to the board on a form supplied by the board. Each certificate of completion and attendance list shall include the name of the provider, course identification that was provided to the board, date and location of the presentation, educational program identification that was provided to the board, hours of instruction or continuing education units, and the licensee’s name and license number or social security number.

Non-Compliance Penalties:
Affected licenses cannot be renewed unless the license holder has earned 16 hours of continuing education credit within the license term immediately preceding their license expiration date, or until 16 hours of credit is earned.

Persons who fail to renew their license by the expiration date are unlicensed until they submit their renewal form and fee, and the license is issued by the board.

The board shall not renew the electrician license of an applicant for renewal who has held the license for at least 24 months after the effective date of this rule unless the applicant has credit for the hours of instruction required.

Disallowed Credits:
Credit shall be allowed only once for any educational program in any 24 month period.

The board shall have authority to audit or review educational programs and presentations of educational programs for compliance with parts 3800.3600 to 3800.3603 and review the provider’s records concerning persons who have attended such presentations for credit.
