Completion Requirements
The Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board established the continuing education requirement for licensed specialty contractors in 2003 with the effective date of September 30, 2004.

This continuing education requirement applies ONLY to Master Contractors. Journeyman are not required to complete any continuing education at this time.

They need 7 hours by September 2004 and will need 14 hours every odd year.

Of these 14 hours: 1 hour of workers’ compensation, 1 hour of workplace safety and 1 hour of business practice.

Renewal Dates
Renewal occurs annually by September 30th.

Continuing education is required biennially by September 30th ODD years.

7 hours of continuing education must be submitted by September 30, 2004, this will count towards the 14 hours required in 2005.

Special Designations or Stipulations:
Of the 14 hours of continuing education each biennium:
At least one hour must deal with workplace safety
At least one hour on the subject of worker's compensation
At least one hour on the subject of business practices.

Contractors holding more than one certificate, registration, or specialty license issued by the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board are required to complete the continuing education requirements only once during each biennial (odd numbered years) renewal period.

Applicable Course of Study:
Any course approved by the Construction Industry Licensing Board or the Electrical Construction Licensing Board for the education requirements for persons certified under Chapter 468, Part XII, Florida Statutes, shall be accepted for continuing education for renewal for persons who are certified under Part XII and who are certified or registered contractors under Chapter 489, Part I, Florida Statutes.

Proof of Compliance:
Licensees are required to provide proof of course completion information at the time of renewal indicating that licensees have successfully completed the required approved courses. The licensee has responsibility to maintain proof of completion of continuing education courses and provide it at the time of license renewal.
