Completion Requirements
14 CEH biennially. Of the 14 CEH, 7 hours must be on technical subjects, 1 hour on workers’ compensation, 1 hour on workplace safety, 1 hour on business practices and the other 3 hours may be of any subject of the licensee’s choice from
a board (ECLB) approved provider.


Of the 14 CEH, 1 hour must be on an advanced module of the Florida Building Code.

Please Note: Of the 14 CEH, Alarm System Contractors and Electrical Contractors engaged in alarm system contracting are required to get 2 hours of ‘false alarm prevention’.

Renewal Dates
Renewal for certified and registered electrical contractors occurs August 31 even years.

Statute:
Chapter 61G-9

Special Designations or Stipulations:
A person who holds more than one certificate or registration issued by the board is required to complete the continuing education requirements only one during each biennial period. Proof of completion by any such person must be submitted with each renewal application.

A person certified or registered by the board who is also certified under Chapter 468, Part XIII, F.S. as a building official, inspector, or plans examiner shall be required to complete the continuing education requirements once during each biennial period. Proof of completion by such person must be submitted with each renewal application.

A person who obtains a certificate or registration more than 12 months prior to the end of a biennial period is required to complete 2 classroom hours of approved continuing education per quarter, not to exceed 7 hours for the first year, as a condition of the first renewal of the certificate or registration.

As a condition to the reactivation of an inactive license, a licensee must submit proof of the completion of twelve (12) classroom hours of continuing education which meets the criteria set forth in Rule 61G6.9002 for each year of inactive status, not to exceed forty-eight (48) hours or four (4) years.

IMPORTANT NOTE: To ensure compliance with the board rules, You must BE ACTIVE in the online course for at least 50 minutes for each credit hour the course is worth (for example, if the course is worth 2 credit hours, you must spend 100 minutes of active participation in the course). After you spend this time in the course and you pass the test, you may download your certificate of completion.

Applicable Course of Study:
The following programs of continuing education may be used to satisfy the continuing education requirement provided that the licensee complies with the terms set forth herein:
(1) Courses for credit which are business, technical or safety courses relevant to the electrical contracting industry and which require a passing grade taken at an accredited college, university, or community college.
(2) Non-credited courses conducted by an accredited institution of higher learning, official governmental agency, the military, or recognized national or state trade or civil organization provided the following conditions are met:
(a) The course must be business, technical or safety course relevant to the electrical contracting industry.
(b) The course must follow a written text, which must be submitted to the board for approval on request.
(3) The instructor of the course must be a professional educator, certified electrical contractor or a similar authority in the field.
(4) An instructor of any of the courses described in sections (1) and (2) of this rule may credit his classroom hours of the course towards completion of his education requirement.

Of the required 14 continuing education hours, up to 4 hours credit may be earned by attending a meeting of the board wherein disciplinary cases are considered. Licensees must attend the complete agenda of disciplinary cases to receive the continuing education hours. At least 7 days advance notice of the intent to attend the disciplinary case session must be given to the board, and the licensee must check in with the clerk of the board prior to the beginning of disciplinary proceedings. A maximum of 3 hours will be allowed during a renewal cycle.

A minimum of one of the 14 required classroom hours of continuing education must be obtained by completing an approved provider’s specialized or advanced module course, approved by the Florida Building Commission, on any portion of the Florida Building Code, relating to the contractor’s respective discipline.


The board shall grant a maximum of seven (7) continuing education credits to any licensee who participates in examination development with the approval of the board upon submission of documentation of such participation by the department or a testing provider under contract with the department.

The board shall grant a maximum of four (4) continuing education credits to any licensee who participates as a member of any technical advisory committee to the Florida Building Code Commission within the Department of Community Affairs.

Continuing education courses required by disciplinary action.
(1) Courses approved under Rule Chapter 61G6-9, F.A.C., shall be accepted as compliance with final orders of the board requiring continuing education.
(2) The certificates of completion of such courses shall be forwarded to the executive director of the board within the time limits stated in the final order.

Proof of Compliance:
Chapter 455, Florida Statutes, now requires the Department of Business and Professional Regulation to monitor all continuing education activities of licensees. Therefore, providers will now be required to submit student rosters electronically to the department. This initiative ensures 100% compliance through monitoring. If proof of required continuing education is not submitted prior to renewal of the license, the licensee will be denied renewal.

Non-Compliance Penalties:
Falsifying or fraudulently representing completion of required continuing education courses in order to renew a certificate or registration, or failing or refusing to provide proof of completion of such courses, shall be a violation of s. 489.533(1)(b), F.S., punishable by penalties up to and including revocation of the certificate or registration.

Disallowed Credits:
Credit hours may not be earned for attendance of a meeting of the board when the licensee attends a disciplinary session as a party to a disciplinary act.

Exceptions or exemptions:
A person is not required to complete any continuing education requirements for the year in which a certificate or registration is initially issued.
