Completion Requirements
Currently, there are no continuing education requirements for contractors in the state California.
Beginning January 1, 2001, individual California electricians must pass a test and receive state certification that their training and competency meets minimum standards. Although the California Contractor's State Licensing Board oversees the state licensing of contractors, this program will be implemented by the Department of Industrial Relation's Division of Apprenticeship Standards.

The statute does not set out the testing requirements. It is an enabling statute that empowers the DAS and sets up an implementation timeline. As of March 1, 2000, an advisory committee was created to implement the program. By January 1, 2001, the committee must establish the testing standards, fees and enforcement regualtions.
